CELEBRATING THE FEAST OF PENTECOST
On Sunday, May 23, the Armenian Church will
celebrate the Feast of Pentecost—the coming of the Holy Spirit to the
Apostles, and the establishment of the first Church in Jerusalem.
"When the day of Pentecost came, they were
all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were
sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and
came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy
Spirit" (Acts 2:1-4).
The miracle of the tongues of fire—the ability to
speak the world’s languages—forecast the universal scope of the Church,
and enabled the Apostles to realize Christ’s great commission to
evangelize the world. Click here to learn more.
"Vocations Day" to be Observed on
Sunday Across Eastern Diocese
In the Eastern Diocese, the Feast of Pentecost
has traditionally been observed as "Vocations Day.” During this Diocesan
year of "Vocations: The Call to Serve,” parishes are especially
encouraged to discuss vocations and to find new ways to engage young men
to consider the priesthood in the Armenian Church.
The Vocations Sourcebook and Program Guide sent
to parishes last December (and reviewed during the Diocesan Assembly)
contains a number of useful resources and suggested activities to help
shape a "Vocations Day” program. |
